- I've Got To Go Back
I've got to get back to the tall timber soon, Back where the big firs saw at the sky. Back where I rise to the cries of a loon, Back where the osprey and eagles still fly. The city and its woes scare me to death, The squalor and stench burns in my eyes. My heart is pounding I can't catch my breath, To tell you the truth, I'm sick of the lies. The bells and whistles, the honking of horns, The screech of tires the curse and the yell. I need to wake up to clear, quiet morns, To be stuck in this city's like living in hell. I'm gagging on a swill, mistaken for air, And I can't trust a soul that I see. I'd just as soon lie in a rattlesnake's lair, I can't stay in the city, I need to be free I need to have my campfire at night, I've got to be able to count my stars. I'm blinded by the glare of the city's light, I'm froze like a deer in eyes of their cars. I've got to get back amid valley and peak, I need a good lashing from the wind and rain. I crave the culture of a babbling creek, I've got to get back to my mountains again. I've not seen a smile since I looked in the mirror, Their taut furrowed gaunt faces tell of their fears. They scurry like mice, amid the din and the furor, And they've all got cell phones stuck in their ears. I gave it my best, I failed your test, Now, I need some rest, I need a good lashing from the wind and rain, I've got to get back to my mountains again. -- Michael Barker Right Click Image Save:

- Between Sunset and Sunrise
If you cannot laugh, lower your eyes as this day dies-- crawl with the sun's light out a window towards night. The day delivers too much sun to see this particular piece of earth, produces so many sounds the mind jumps onto dream-stage. My eyes open to a dark window and begin to question the morning. Clock tells me it's that time to begin a day of trying to do what has never been done so well before. --Tim Van Ert Right Click Image Save Download PDF to Print

Along the way, he fell in love with an Office Manager/Controller who started writing poetry as a child to make her mark on the hearts of friends and family. PoetSpeak™ began with a weekly column in an Alaska newspaper. It moved from there to performances in the Koinea Hall at Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. It is the passion of a husband and wife team who met because of their poetry, mutual friends who knew they each wrote poetry insisted that they meet. Twenty plus years later, they are still sharing their love for poetry and each other in a peaceful acreage in Middle Tennessee. - He Lets MeIn Post A Poem·August 19, 2024He lets me sleep in while he heads off to work. He lets me try new recipes, and eats whatever I come up with. He lets me pick the path we'll walk even if he'd go another way. He lets me be a little crazy-- silliness isn't in him, but he lets me. He lets me . . . No, that's not quite right. He not only Lets me-- He encourages me to be ME. --Evy Kristensen1114

- The CurtainIn Post A Poem·August 19, 2024The Curtain There's a glorious rain falling outside our kitchen window. It's not quite a Wall of Water, but certainly, it's a Curtain of it. The drops are so huge you can see them as individual orbs. It's a lot of wetness. The birds are all holed up somewhere. They're not stupid. A light shower to bathe in is one thing, But this downpour calls for shelter. Maybe they're perched in a tree looking out through the Curtain. --Evy Kristensen118
